April 19, 2005: Habemus... pee in the potty!
Veronika peed in the potty! Don't get too excited though, we are far from what one calls "potty trained". Naive and overzealous new mother that I am, I have been trying to get her acquainted with the potty since she turned 18 months, and although she didn't mind sitting on it ocasionally and even excitedly watch for pee to appear she never ever produced anything. We got the potty books and the potty dolls and she loved them all, but no pee. Maybe it was too much pressure, I don't know. I would stop all suggestion of potty for weeks and the resume as if nothing had happened. The core part of the training was to let her run around with her butt naked so she would make the pee/wetness connection. Yes, it did include a lot of cleaning for me, uhm, it still does, but well, it worked. Veronika was never bothered by wet diapers. I would've had to wait for months or years for her to object to pee on her butt.
And so... yesterday as she was running around with her butt showing she suddenly had to pee, stopped herself mid-stream and went running for the potty to finish it there! This morning, same story. When I put her diaper back on, she considers the potty thing done and will not request to go. Not yet. We will get there though. For now, I'm just glad about the potty finally collecting some yellow liquids instead of dust.
How proud am I!!! (pssst... Veronika, do not make me a fool by refusing to go for the next 6 months!)
