April 15, 2004: Stationary Activities

My baby likes to sit or to stand, but in both cases, she does not need to go anywhere from there. She doesn't start crawling from the sitting position and she won't walk from the standing position. She just likes to be there and take care of things around her. Like reach real far until she tumbles or ends up in a really strange position between lying and sitting and can't move anymore. Then it's time to whine and call someone to come help her get back into whatever position she wants. Lately that's been standing. Standing is fun, it's cool, it's for grown-up kids. Sitting is for babies. Who wants to sit if you can stand? Stuff you can do while you stand? Uhm, well, you can hold on to something and have your mom admire you. You can check out your legs in the mirror or if you're lucky and are standing by the coffeetable you can take out the cds from underneath one by one. Sometimes she gets so caught up in taking those cds out that she forgets to hold on and uses both hands to grab the cds... well, that usually ends up in a thump and a painful cry, unless I'm fast enough to catch her.

She's also getting a lot more specific about how she wants her food administered. Being fed by spoon is a DRAG and also just for babies and not grown-up kids like her but sometimes it's pretty yummy stuff, so we found a compromise where she will let me feed her if at the same time she can stir and feel the contents of the bowl with her right hand. Yeah, it is pretty disgusting, also sometimes the head needs to be scratched during the meal, which leaves the hair sticky and crusty... but what are you going to do? Being 8 months and 12 days is tough.

I am amazed how in only 8 months she turned into a girl from being a tiny, clean slate of a bundle. I am so excited about what's coming. I see that soon we will get to know her character and personality when she starts talking and walking and playing. I can't wait!
