January 12, 2004: Getting everything started in the new year!

Veronika had a week of firsts last week. Not only did she catch her first cold during her first trip to Europe, she also took her first flight and rolled over... once.

It's probably not the best idea to fly with an infant, but when you are a world citizen like my daughter, there is obviously no choice. I've never tested infants for plane-behavior, but she would've definitely passed it with flying colors. The flight from Chicago to Frankfurt was over 7 hours and she was all smiles and giggles, even got a few naps in. Once we had to transfer to the flight to Vienna, things got pretty rough, since surprisingly she had no understanding why it was day in the middle of her night and we did not let her just sleep (well, we did, but we had to change location every time she dozed off). All in all she adapted to the new schedule quickly and we can rate the first flight a success.

She still has a little bit of that first cold, but does not seem bothered in the least, even the little nose pump is accepted.. most of the time.

As for the rolling over... well, she did it with some (vocal) nudging on my part, but then never again. I wonder if that time she just happened to forget that she disliked laying on her tummy and so had enough positive enegry to try out some new tricks. I don't know. I keep putting her on her on her tummy and encouraging her but she usually just ends up crying for me to turn her on her back. I will keep you posted.

It was lots of fun to see everyone ooh and aah over her and see her interact with her cousins. There's just more and more fun to come!
