October 24, 2003: All By Ourselves
I had the best night with Veronika tonight. Dinka was out for a couple of hours doing exciting, frivolous things like getting her hair cut and buying groceries. Meanwhile, Veronika and I spent the whole evening together and everything went perfectly. The accomplishments of the evening were not necessarily new or impressive on their own but the combination of everything working out in one night was quite nice and reassuring. The highlights:
- Spent forty-five minutes cooing and smiling while listening and whistling along to the German lullaby played by the moon and star from Kathrin.
- Enjoyed and eventually fell asleep to Thelonious Monk's Misterioso (more on her musical tastes to come).
- Accepted the bottle from me (we're still working on this, so it's kind of a big deal) and drank almost two ounces of milk.
- More smiles on the changing table while being changed after dinner.
- Watched the animal mobile from the crib while I imitated the call of each jungle creature.
- Bath time (always popular).
I can imagine that for someone not currently in a similar situation this might not seem like a big deal but it was to me. As it turns out, she really does like me.
